had been reading all the review for this phone, and when it came, it didn't not gave me any trouble setting it up, however, i used it purly for the internet, no land line attached. For its worth, i used for skype to call internationally with great rate, and pretty good sound quality. What is surprised me was, i was still able to have my computer hooked up to the same account meantime the phone connect to the account without interruption. Hmm.works very well.
However, I can barely make long distance calls. - The sound quality is horrible even with land line calls. I have had this phone for two years and since the day I got it, it has given me grief. For some reason it isn't able to connect to Skype. The phone isn't able to communicate with the base. Here are all the problems I have had with this phone.- It doesn't always remember your privacy settings. - The redial feature is lousy.
We were able to workaround the problems by unplugging and then plugging the base from the power source and resetting the base. I bought this phone in an attempt to reduce my long distance phone bill. The sound quality on my $20 AT&T land line phone is better than this phone. - It routinely loses the ability to make Skype calls. I know the problem wasn't caused by my ISP because I could make Skype calls directly from my PC. However, now the phone is in a state that the workaround isn't working. So I'm not able to use this phone even to make land line calls.
When using SKYPE the phone is often incapable of producing touch-tone (DTMF) after the caller has answered. This is a great land-line phone. As a Skype phone its not bad but certainly not perfect. This makes keying in an account number or selecting an option impossible. Beyond this difficulty the phone works well.
Still, I can't fathom spending more than $100 for it. I knew I didn't spend that much two years ago, but was amazed to see in my order history that I got it for $100.
Yes, $100. I bought this skype phone two years ago for $100.
I was just curious about the cost of adding an additional handset and saw price. On Sept 29, 2009, it is now listed at $399.
How is that even possible. I have only used the phone sporadically, but it seems to function well enough (sound quality, stable connections.).
No way.
I give this product only two stars out of five, because when it has done it's job. I like how the batteries are just rechargeable AAAs, and are easily obtained from your local box store. It's just not done it very well. You can press 1 all day long, and it will not work.
The in state long distance charges are crazy here, so I turned to skype out for a cheaper option. I got this phone to call the next town over, because it's considered long distance. When it works that is. My iPod Touch 2G has better call quality then this phone does.
It picks up all background sound, and can make some conversations hard to understand. I've saved a lot of money calling in state. The phone does have an attractive look and feel to it. Negativities: This phone is always losing it's connection, and has to be reset. I've been using the product for about a year, but it's in need of constant attention.
It's not to uncommon for you to drop a call using this phone. Lastly, this phone is very susceptible to area noise. Rarely, does the touch tone work. I mean when you're asked to press 1. If I don't have time to fiddle with it I end up using my home land-line, and eating the crazy in state charges. Positives: The phone is easy to set up, and pretty much usable out of the box. I can not do business on the phone that will require me to use the number pad during the call.
It always seems when I don't really need to make a call I have no issues, but when I have to make an important call it's gone down. The call quality is always low. This goes for land-line, or skype out. I don't recommend this product for purchase.
